2024 aluminium is a typical high-strength aluminium alloy for aerospace applications. Unfortunately, 2024 aluminium is incompatible with additive manufacturing owing to severe hot cracking tendency, which hinders the fabrication of complex-geometry parts of 2024 aluminium via additive manufacturing. Our newly developed CA224H aluminium alloy powders (modified 2024) have been reliably used on various types of selective laser melting equipment (e.g., BLT-S310, E-Plus-3D EP-M26), with micro-cracks completely suppressed. The as-printed sample exhibits a tensile yield strength of 370-440 MPa, an ultimate tensile strength of 480-530 MPa, and an elongation of 8-18%. The heat-treated sample exhibits a tensile yield strength of 380-460 MPa, an ultimate tensile strength of 490-550 MPa, and an elongation of 8-14%. The fatigue strength is 210MPa under heat treated condition.
