【Biography】

Dr. Xiong Yi is an assistant professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Southern University of Science and Technology. He is a high-level overseas talent in Shenzhen and a core member of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Team under the Pearl River Talent Program. Received a Ph.D. in Engineering Design and Manufacturing from Aalto University, Finland in 2016. He used to be a tenured engineer at the Flanders Manufacturing Institute in Belgium and a researcher (Level 2) at the Digital Manufacturing and Design Centre of Singapore University of Technology and Design, and participated in the development of multiple industrial-grade additive manufacturing software and hardware systems. For a long time, I have been engaged in research in the intersection of intelligent additive manufacturing and mechanical optimization design. My current research directions include: intelligent design and manufacturing, additive manufacturing of composite materials, design for additive manufacturing, and intelligent materials and structures. He/She has successively undertaken multiple projects under the key research and development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and provincial and municipal projects. Nearly 50 papers have been published in international academic journals such as Nature Communications, Additive Manufacturing, Composite Science and Technology. Served as A Visiting Professor at the Institute for High Performance Computing (IHPC) of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore, Editorial Board Member of Journal of Engineering Design, and special issue Editor of Composites Communications Review experts for provincial and municipal funds and the Belgian VLAIO Fund. He serves as the secretary-general of the Composite Materials Additive Manufacturing Special Committee of the Chinese Society of Composite Materials, a member of the Intelligent Composite Materials Special Committee, and a young member of the Mechanical Design Branch and Additive Manufacturing Technology Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
